Kurzfassung: The varieties Dornfelder and Regent, two interspecies hybrids for red wines which enjoy a good reputation in Germany, have recently been introduced for study in the ampelographic collection of the University for Agronomical Sciences and Veterinary Medicine in Bucharest. This paper presents some results on the quality of wines obtained from these varieties under the culture conditions of Romania in 2007. Wines of Regent and Dornfelder obtained by classic technology (maceration-fermentation) were analyzed to determine their composition and sensory characteristics, in comparison with control wines of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, which occupy a high percentage of Romanian vineyards and produce wines of recognized quality. Although the research has just begun, results indicate that the two studied varieties behave well under the specific conditions of Romania and produce red wines with superior characteristics, with intense colour. These wines may become an interesting addition to the national assortment of red wines and they might even be able to compete with some varieties of much longer tradition in our country.
